Olayan Descon was established in 1981 as a joint venture between Olayan Saudi Holding Co and Descon Engineering Co to leverage their combined and rich experience in financial and engineering backgrounds to position itself as a leading integrated engineering services company. With over 2500 competent personnel, the company is a well known EPC contractor and an Operation & Maintenance Services Co for oil & gas, refineries, chemical, cement and petrochemical plants in the Arabian Gulf region.

Pir Muhammad Tayyab, a Mechanical Engineer has been the head of manufacturing for the past seven years at the Saudi Arabian facility. Olayan processes over 8000 tons of steel annually to produce pres-sure vessels, reactors, columns, heat exchangers and other equipment used in the petrochemical industry.

In 2007 Olayan took delivery of a new Intimidator 2.5x2.5 meter drilling and milling machine to produce tubesheets and baffle plates for heat exchangers. The key features they looked for in a machine was to get a solution from a company that could teach them all about modern drilling practices as they where currently using radial drills with all manual operations.

Turning to Quickmill they found they were offered efficiency, quality, reliability and a proven track record for making companies successful with their equipment.  After installation, Quickmill’s VP & Technical Di-rector personally traveled to our facility to train our staff on tooling, set up & application of the machine to produce tubesheets & baffles. This service saved many months of trial & error to learn all about how to apply tooling to a machine and reduced costs immediately.

We currently are running production on the machine 70% faster than we previously could using many radial drills in the factory. Our operators are so comfortable with the machine during drilling that they can attend to other work while the machine is drilling and not have to constantly be at the control.

Since the installation in March of 2007 the machine has been very reliable and when we do call for ser-vice we get a prompt response and fix to our problems. The well illustrated manuals and engineering documentation for the equipment allows us to reduce downtime and make repairs quick and efficient.

Currently with the economic situation we have no need for any additional equipment of this type. When things start to turn around we will sure look to Quickmill to help us and guide us for our next machine purchase.
